Who Eddy Merckx was
He won five hundred and twenty-five races, five Tours, five Giros, a Vuelta and every monument on the calendar. They called him the Cannibal because he let nobody win, not even minor races.
His 1972 hour record in Mexico stood for twelve years. No later cyclist comes near his palmarès, and it is argued whether any will.
