Who Agnès Varda was
She was a theatre photographer and shot "La Pointe Courte" in 1955 having barely seen any films, four years before the Nouvelle Vague existed. Chronologically, it is its first film.
"Cléo from 5 to 7" unfolds almost in real time. Her late documentaries — "The Gleaners and I", "Faces Places" — made her, in her eighties, a figure beloved by audiences who were not born when she started.
