Who Arthur Edward Waite was
Born in Brooklyn and raised in London, he joined the Golden Dawn and ended up leading one of its branches.
In 1909 he commissioned Pamela Colman Smith to draw the seventy-eight cards of the deck that bears his name. His decision to illustrate the minor arcana too — until then they were suits of repeated symbols, like a pack of playing cards — is why the Rider-Waite is the most used tarot in the world today.
No documented birth time exists for this person. Without a time there are no houses, no Ascendant, no Midheaven, and the wheel is not oriented: what you see are the positions by sign, which are correct, and nothing else. An incomplete chart beats an invented Ascendant.
