Who Dolores Ibárruri was
The daughter and wife of Biscayan miners, she left school at fifteen. Her journalistic pseudonym — she signed an article at Easter — ended up as her name.
Elected to parliament in 1936, her cry of "¡No pasarán!" in the defence of Madrid went round the world. She spent thirty-eight years exiled in the USSR and returned in 1977 to be a deputy again, at eighty-one.
