Who Rosa Luxemburgo was
She took a doctorate in economics in Zurich, exceptional for a Jewish woman in 1897, and became a German citizen through a marriage of convenience so she could organise there.
She opposed the First World War from the first day and spent much of it in prison. She criticised Lenin in defence of the freedom to dissent: "freedom is always the freedom of the one who thinks differently". She was murdered by the Freikorps during the Spartacist uprising and her body thrown into a canal.
