Who Rubén Darío was
He was reading at three and publishing in newspapers at thirteen. "Azul…" (1888) and "Prosas profanas" founded modernismo, the first literary movement to travel from the Americas to Spain rather than the other way.
He was a diplomat and correspondent, lived in Chile, Argentina, Spain and France, and died at forty-nine ruined by alcohol. He renewed Spanish metre as nobody had since the Golden Age.
