Who Víctor Erice was
He has directed four features in fifty years, and three of them are among the best of Spanish cinema. "The Spirit of the Beehive" (1973) tells the post-war years through the eyes of a small girl who has seen "Frankenstein".
"El Sur" was released without its second half, which the producers would not finance. "The Quince Tree Sun" films Antonio López trying to paint a quince tree. He returned in 2023 with "Close Your Eyes", thirty years on.
