Who Alan Leo was
William Frederick Allan was a commercial traveller who became a Theosophist; he took the name of his sun sign.
He simplified astrology so it could be taught and sold by post, invented the mass-produced printed natal chart, and shifted the axis from predicting events to character — "character is destiny" — which is the astrology almost everyone practises today. He was prosecuted twice for fortune-telling in the United Kingdom.
