Who Alejandro Jodorowsky was
The son of Ukrainian Jewish emigrants in a mining town in northern Chile, he left for Paris in 1953 and studied mime with Marcel Marceau.
With Philippe Camoin he restored the Tarot de Marseille, reconstructing the colours and lines of Nicolas Conver's deck, and his reading of it — not divinatory but as a mirror of the unconscious — is the reference point for tarot in Spanish today. "El Topo" and "The Holy Mountain" made him a figure of cult cinema, and for years he read tarot for free on Wednesdays in a Paris café.
