Who Charly García was
A piano prodigy with perfect pitch who graduated from the conservatory at twelve, he founded Sui Generis with Nito Mestre in 1972 and later Serú Girán, the band that set the years of the Argentine dictatorship to coded music.
"Canción de Alicia en el país" and "Los dinosaurios" were sung when naming things came at a price. His solo work of the eighties — "Clics modernos", "Piano bar" — is the other pillar, and his survival after decades of excess is part of a legend he curates himself.
