Who Éliphas Lévi was
Alphonse Louis Constant, a cobbler's son, trained for the priesthood and left the seminary. He was imprisoned twice for his socialist writings.
"Dogma and Ritual of High Magic" (1856) proposed the correspondence between the twenty-two major arcana and the twenty-two Hebrew letters, which is the axis of all later esoteric tarot — Waite, Crowley and the Golden Dawn all start there. His drawn Baphomet is one of the most reproduced images in occultism.
No documented birth time exists for this person. Without a time there are no houses, no Ascendant, no Midheaven, and the wheel is not oriented: what you see are the positions by sign, which are correct, and nothing else. An incomplete chart beats an invented Ascendant.
