Who Jane Goodall was
She arrived at Gombe in 1960 with no university degree, sent by Louis Leakey precisely because she was unconditioned by academia. Within months she observed a chimpanzee making a tool, something until then believed uniquely human.
She was criticised for giving the animals names instead of numbers. Her fieldwork changed both primatology and the idea of where the boundary of the human lies.
