Who Katherine Johnson was
She started high school at ten and university at fifteen. She joined NACA in 1953 in the "colored computers" section, Black women doing flight calculations by hand in segregated offices.
She calculated the trajectory of Alan Shepard's flight and John Glenn's re-entry window — Glenn explicitly asked that she check the machine's numbers before launch. Her story reached a wide public with "Hidden Figures".
