Who Paco de Lucía was
His father set him to study guitar at five with the explicit aim of lifting the family out of poverty. By fourteen he was recording. His technique redefined what a flamenco guitar could play.
"Entre dos aguas" (1973) was an unplanned commercial hit, and his sextet brought the Peruvian cajón into flamenco, now inseparable from the genre. He played with Al Di Meola, John McLaughlin and Chick Corea without ever ceasing to be a flamenco guitarist.
