Who Simone Weil was
A philosophy teacher, she left her post to work in a Renault factory and understand from within what industrial labour does to a person. She went to the Spanish Civil War with the Durruti column.
Her thought crosses politics, labour and a Christian mysticism that never led her to be baptised. She died in England at thirty-four, weakened by restricting herself to what she believed her compatriots were eating under the occupation.
