Who Slavoj Žižek was
He took doctorates in Ljubljana and in Paris under Jacques-Alain Miller, and was kept out of the university for political reasons in 1970s Yugoslavia. He ran for the Slovenian presidency in 1990.
He reads Hegel and Lacan through Hollywood cinema and the other way round, which has won him an audience academic philosophy does not usually have. He publishes at a rate he himself describes as a symptom.
