Who Sri Aurobindo was
Educated in England from the age of seven, he returned to India speaking no Indian language and became one of the first leaders of radical independence. He was jailed for a year for sedition.
In prison he had an experience that turned him away from politics. He withdrew to Pondicherry and developed integral yoga, which seeks not to leave the world but to transform it. "The Life Divine" and "Savitri" — a poem of twenty-four thousand lines — are his major work.
