Who Ramana Maharshi was
At sixteen he had a sudden experience of death that he described as the discovery that he was not the body. Weeks later he left home for Mount Arunachala, which he did not leave for fifty-four years.
His teaching is a single question, "who am I?", held until the question dissolves. He received anyone who came and often taught in silence. His influence reached the West mainly through books by European visitors.
