Who Pema Chödrön was
She was a schoolteacher and a mother of two, and came to Buddhism after her second divorce, close to forty. She studied with Chögyam Trungpa.
Her books — "When Things Fall Apart", "The Places That Scare You" — are about staying with discomfort rather than fleeing it, and have made Tibetan Buddhism readable without technical vocabulary. She led Gampo Abbey in Nova Scotia.
