Who Ram Dass was
Richard Alpert was a Harvard psychology professor when he was dismissed, alongside Timothy Leary, over their psilocybin experiments. He went to India and came back as Ram Dass.
"Be Here Now" (1971) sold more than two million copies and was, for a whole generation, the first door into meditation. After a stroke in 1997 he went on teaching from a wheelchair, and spoke of it as one more lesson.
