Who Alexander von Humboldt was
He travelled the Americas between 1799 and 1804 measuring everything: he climbed Chimborazo, described the current that bears his name, and returned with sixty thousand specimens.
He was the first to describe human-caused climate change, observing deforestation around Lake Valencia. His idea of nature as a web of relationships is the origin of ecology. More things in the world are named after him than after anyone else.
