Who Barbara McClintock was
She worked with maize for forty years and discovered in the 1940s that some genes move about within the chromosome.
The scientific community did not believe her, and she stopped publishing on the subject for decades without abandoning the research. She received the Nobel in 1983, more than thirty years after the discovery and as sole laureate, which had not happened in medicine since 1947.
