Who Arthur Schopenhauer was
He published "The World as Will and Representation" at thirty and almost nobody read it for three decades. He scheduled his Berlin lectures against Hegel's and was left with no students.
He was the first Western philosopher to read the Upanishads and Buddhism seriously. His influence came late and was enormous: Nietzsche, Wagner, Freud, Borges and Beckett all come from there.
