Who Gabriel García Márquez was
He was raised by his grandparents in Aracataca, and from the way his grandmother told impossible things as though they were everyday came the tone of all his work. He was a journalist before a novelist, and always said the craft came from there.
"One Hundred Years of Solitude" (1967) sold fifty million copies and put Macondo on the map. He received the Nobel in 1982. "Love in the Time of Cholera" and "Chronicle of a Death Foretold" are the other two ways in.
