Who Hannah Arendt was
She studied with Heidegger and Jaspers, fled Germany in 1933, was interned at the French camp at Gurs, and reached New York in 1941 stateless.
"The Origins of Totalitarianism" and "The Human Condition" are her major works. Her account of the Eichmann trial coined "the banality of evil" and cost her the friendship of much of the Jewish community. She refused to be called a philosopher: she said she was a political theorist.
