An Algerian Jew expelled from school at twelve under Vichy racial laws, that experience of being inside and outside at once runs through all his work.
Deconstruction is not a method of demolition but a way of reading that looks for what a text must exclude in order to hold together. It changed philosophy, literary theory, law and architecture, and provoked an unusual degree of academic hostility.
