Who Immanuel Kant was
He never left the surroundings of Königsberg, and his routine was so exact that neighbours set their clocks by his walk. He published his major work at fifty-seven.
The three Critiques split philosophy into a before and after: knowledge does not copy the world, it constructs it through the forms of the subject. The categorical imperative is his contribution to ethics, and remains the starting point of any modern moral discussion.
