Who Pamela Colman Smith was
She grew up between London, New York and Jamaica, and studied art in Brooklyn. She was an illustrator, a storyteller and a stage designer for W. B. Yeats.
She drew the seventy-eight cards of the most widespread tarot in history in a few months of 1909, for a single modest fee. She died in poverty and unacknowledged; her belongings were auctioned to pay debts. Only in recent decades has the deck begun to be called Waite-Smith.
No documented birth time exists for this person. Without a time there are no houses, no Ascendant, no Midheaven, and the wheel is not oriented: what you see are the positions by sign, which are correct, and nothing else. An incomplete chart beats an invented Ascendant.
