Who Madre Teresa de Calcuta was
Anjezë Gonxhe Bojaxhiu left her teaching convent in 1948 to work in the poorest quarters of Calcutta, and founded the Missionaries of Charity, which reached more than a hundred countries.
She received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979. Her letters, published after her death, revealed decades of spiritual dryness she never made public. Her work has been criticised over the quality of care and her position on suffering; the argument is still open.
